Elon Musk Confirms He Would Support Ron DeSantis for President in 2024

Elon Musk, Twitter chief and Tesla CEO, says he will support Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis if he runs for president in 2024.

A Twitter user asked Musk, “Would you support Ron DeSantis in 2024, Elon?”

“Yes,” answered Musk.

Musk made that statement after comedian Tim Young pointed out that President Trump hasn’t tweeted since the reversal of his suspension.

“I’m fine with Trump, no tweeting. The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the laws or terms of service. Deplatforming, a sitting President, undermined public trust in Twitter for half of America,” tweeted Musk.

Musk confirmed that he voted for President Biden over Trump in 2020.

“As a reminded, I was a significant supporter of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump,” said Musk. “But Twitter as a platform must be fair to all.”

Musk left Democrat party in May after voting for Biden in 2020

In May, Musk said he could no longer support the Democratic Party.

“In the past, I voted Democrat because they were (mostly) the kindness party. But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican,” said Musk.

He continued, “My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would be the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far.”

Musk called himself a “significant supporter of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump.”

Musk purchased Twitter almost a month ago and reinstated former President Donald Trump’s account. Trump’s Twitter account was quickly disabled after the January 6 incident at the Capitol. He has yet to post any tweets.

In June, Musk said he was leaning toward endorsing DeSantis, and the two have shared exchanges.

Many party leaders, including ones who were once considered allies of Trump, have been promoting DeSantis as a more desirable candidate than the former president in the 2024 election.

The governor of Florida won a landslide re-election bid in the November 8 election, as many GOP candidates endorsed by Trump lost.

Musk, also the CEO of SpaceX, hasn’t donated to a federal political campaign or candidate since 2020. He did not contribute to Gov. DeSantis’s gubernatorial campaigns.

Following Musk’s restoration of Trump’s account, several civil rights leaders urged big advertisers to keep away from the platform. Activists said Musk broke promises made to them behind-closed-doors about misinformation and hate speech.

According to a filing, President Trump is obligated to make most of his social media posts and interactions on Truth Social, his social media platform launched after his Twitter ban. However, there is an exception for political messaging.
