President Joe Biden Slams ‘MAGA Republicans’ as ‘Real Problem’ at DNC Reception

President Biden delivered a speech on Friday during a Democratic National Committee reception in which he said, ‘MAGA Republicans’ are trying to undo progress made in the United States.

The president’s remarks in Washington, D.C., come only days after he announced his re-election campaign for the presidency.

During the speech, Biden touted his presidential accomplishments, including signing the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, the gun reform and bipartisan infrastructure laws, and the American Rescue Plan. The president also highlighted the historic appointment of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Brown Jackson is the first black woman to sit on the highest court.

President Biden also claimed his administration “reestablished America’s leadership in the world.”

“We restored America’s standing on the world stage,” the president told Democratic donors.

He also claimed that “12 million brand-new jobs” had been created in two years, which, he claimed, is more than any president during a four-year term. Biden also said unemployment is at 3.5%.

Additionally, the president purported that American freedoms and democracy are under attack by “MAGA Republicans,” referring to former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Trump already declared his candidacy for president back in November.

“MAGA Republicans are trying to take us backward,” said Biden. “But together, we’re not going to let them do it. Not an inch back. Instead, our agenda will continue to bring us forward and build on our progress. And we must finish this job.”

“Let’s keep growing the economy from the middle out and the bottom up,” Biden continued. “Let’s protect a woman’s right to choose and codify Roe v. Wade. Let’s protect our children from gun violence by continuing to work to eliminate assault weapons. And let’s keep lowering the prescription drug cost not just for those on Medicare, but for all Americans.”

Biden: “Real problem” is “those MAGA Republicans”

President Biden warned the “real problem” is “those MAGA Republicans” that he says represent 30 percent of the GOP party and added that “this is not your father’s Republican Party.”

The president’s caution about “MAGA Republicans” echo his comments during his re-election video announcement released earlier in the week when he warned they are trying to strip American freedoms through banning books, abortion restrictions, and other proposals.

During the reception Friday, President Biden reminded donors of their contributions during the 2020 election when he defeated former President Trump and said he was optimistic he would win re-election.
“Remember 2020, when everyone had written us off? But you folks in this room, you knew we could do it, and we did. You raised significant amounts of money to allow us to compete,” said Biden.”

President Biden also recalled the Republicans’ claims and polling before the 2022 midterm elections, predicting that Democrats would perform poorly. The GOP narrowly took back the House, and Democrats gained a Senate seat after November’s elections.

“Remember 2022, the midterm elections, when we were supposed to get our clock clean and swamped? ‘The red wave is coming’…Because of your help, it never happened, and we met the moment again and again, a broad coalition with all of you. And we’re going to do it again in 2024 together,” said the president.

The president concluded by telling donors their support helped boost his campaign during the 2020 election and that they could give him victory again in 2024.

“There’s so much we can do, and we can contribute so much to the country right now,” said Biden. “And it’s because of you I’m standing here, and it’s going to be because of you we win this next time around.”
