Republicans Push to Declassify Covid-19 Lab Leak Docs

Republicans are calling for the Biden administration to declassify crucial documents related to the origins of the Covid-19 virus. Many are convinced the lab leak originated from a lab leak in Wuhan, China.

Classified documents leaked (they should be declassified!) showing scientists at DOE believe Covid leaked from Wuhan Lab,” GOP Senator Rand Paul tweeted.

The story was published Sunday by the Wall Street Journal and details the origins of the coronavirus pandemic according to Energy Department findings and matches those drawn by the FBI in 2021. The Department of Energy (DOE) claims that the conclusions of the pandemic’s origins from a lab link are given at a “low confidence.”

Intelligence agencies remain divided on the lab leak theory. Several federal agencies continue to claim the virus originated from an animal, not a lab. However, all reports are still made with low confidence.

However, the CIA has yet to rule anything out, as both the animal host and lab theories are in question.

Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has made comparable calls for clarity. Sunday, Hawley introduced legislation to declassify the findings of the origin of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The American people deserve the full truth about #covid origins — no more whitewash. I will again introduce legislation to make the U.S. government’s intelligence reports on Covid more open to the people,” tweeted Hawley.

According to the Journal report, the FBI and DOE determined the leak at the Wuhan lab began for different reasons. The CIA has not decided whether the virus originated from an animal host or the lab.

China has consistently refused to cooperate. In 2021, its authorities rejected an effort by the World Health Organization to investigate whether the Wuhan lab was the source of the leak.

Zeng Yixin, the vice minister of China’s National Health Commission, has rejected that possibility.

Representative Pat Fallon: Lab leak theory not a “fringe theory”

According to GOP Representative Pat Fallon of Texas, the theory that the Covid-19 lab leak was a “fringe theory” that only a “loon” or conspiracy theorists could believe.

“It used to be a fringe theory if you remember, and a lot of the mainstream media were dismissing it, and you were a loon if you purported to believe that it was leaked from a lab,” said Fallon during a television appearance.

“Circumstantially, where do they do virology research in China? In Wuhan. And where did this virus originate? Wuhan. That, in and of itself, is quite a coincidence,” Fallon continued.

“But now the FBI and the U.S. Energy Department think the preponderance of the evidence shows them that it’s more likely than not that it did leak from a lab, which many of us suspected for a couple of years.”

“Think also about what happened with the Delta variant in South Africa. They welcomed the international community to come in because they didn’t know what it was. Did the Chinese communist do that? Or did they close their doors and their borders and say, ‘We’ll handle it?’ And that’s indicative of someone that’s trying to cover something up.”
